Why Should I Fix a Cracked Tooth If It Doesn't Hurt?

11/8/2016

People are always hesitant to fix a tooth that doesn’t hurt, which is a normal reaction and it fits with the old saying of “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” We always recommended repairing something before it starts hurting in order to save the tooth from further damage and the patient from severe pain. Just because you don’t feel it doesn’t mean that there isn’t a problem or an issue. When a tooth cracks it does not repair it just gets worse. Once someone cracks a tooth they usually will not notice or feel it. In most cases the hygienist or dentist will be the first person to bring the issue to their attention. Not fixing that tooth will leave it vulnerable to breaking even more. Teeth can crack to the point where they require a root canal or it can become so severe it could require removal.
